Antonietta “Chris” Hilbert, 77 of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Saucon Township, PA passed away on July 11, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born December 31, 1930 in Rovigo, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Maria Asunta Bassi. She grew up during WWII. Fighting passed through her area and American bombs destroyed 3 houses in which she lived. Times were very difficult, but her family, mother, father, two brothers and two sisters survived. Chris left Italy’s devastation from the war when she was 18 years old and went to England to become a nurse. It was there she met her husband to be an American Airman. Chris’ future with her husband made her a world traveler. She crossed the United States seven times by auto, seeing most of the states.

Mrs. Hilbert was a seamstress, she hand stitched many quilts, Chris was also a gourmet cook, collecting cook books from all over the world and sampling recipes from them all.

Mrs. Hilbert is survived by her husband of 55 years, James H. Hilbert, sons; Andy Hilbert, Clint Hilbert, (Tomika), and Antonio Hilbert, brothers; Giuseppi Bassi, sisters; Anna Marani, and Maria Turchi and grandchildren; Andrea Hilbert, Clint Hilbert, Jr. and Marina Hilbert.

Chris’s Life celebration will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 5PM to 8PM in the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. Charlotte Hall, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 18, 2008 at 10AM in the Funeral home chapel with Father Peter Alliata of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
