The Family Access Center (FAC) of the Tri-County Youth Services Bureau is now located at 3695 Hallowing Point Road, Suite 6 in Prince Frederick.

The Calvert County Commissioners recently presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new office.

“The Family Access Center is the single point of access in Calvert County and provides system and family navigators that work with families to provide information on available community services, facilitate contact with appropriate personnel at community organizations, set up appointments and provide follow-up to make sure individual and family needs have been met,” stated James K. Stanley in a memo to the commissioners. Stanley is the coordinator of the Calvert County Family Network.

Patricia Wheeler, FAC’s Calvert County program director, said the center receives state and county funds.

“There’s a huge need for this in the county,” said Cheri Reulet, FAC of Calvert County’s family navigator. “Now families who need assistance can go through one door.”

The issues bringing families in search of help include problems paying for housing, food or utilities, a child with learning or behavioral problems at school, concern that a child may be involved in criminal activity, possible childhood depression or unmanageable behavior.

“We are really busy,” said Wheeler.

According to FAC officials, the center’s navigator works “one-on-one” with families seeking help.
