Worthy tips for buying second-hand Tata Tiago

The Tata Tiago compact hatchback launched in early 2016 after a long wait and went on to become a great success. The Tiago is thought to be a great new, fresh and capable car that is helping its maker lose the boring tag from its brand image. The very fresh and impressive Tiago is a perfect choice for the modern Indian small car buyers who wish to get a lot within a small budget. With the Tiago, Tata Motors keeps its patent qualities of great practicality and affordability, but really upgraded its design philosophy, interior quality and features list. Tata’s all-time popular name Indica has been replaced by the so much better Tiago, and very rightly the Tiago is termed as the best car ever to come out of Tata’s stable (well, at least in the small car segment, as Tata Motors has also launched the head turning Hexa flagship crossover recently). In few words, you can’t go wrong with the Tata Tiago.

Now, we are discussing about owning a second-hand or pre-owned Tiago here. One might wonder, why anybody would want to sell such a great car which is also absolutely new, as the Tiago hasn’t completed one year in the market yet. Well, we can’t deny that some people do like to buy and sell cars often, that’s their nature. And if you can get hold of an almost brand new Tata Tiago for a significantly low price just because it has been pre-owned, then why not? We are offering some ideas to get hold of a second hand Tiago with great low pricing while also ensuring that it is as good as a showroom new car. It is to be noted that as the Tiago is a very new car in the market we are not including the pre-owned car buying tips that generally apply to very old car models in the market.

Here are a few quick handy tips before you decide to buy a pre-owned Tata Tiago:

First and foremost, ensure that the pre-owned Tiago that you intend to buy has not been badly damaged in big car accident. Get the help of the technicians from a reliable car workshop to ensure all the under the hood mechanicals are at their top conditions and nothing is damaged or broken in order enjoy new car-like ownership experience from your Tiago.

Check the exterior of the used Tiago thoroughly with a hawk-eye, as it will further ensure that you get the feel of a showroom new Tiago, as the car looks so fresh and stylish. A thoroughly clean exterior will offer a true view of the car’s exterior condition. However, a few harmless scratches and dings that can be fixed easily can be overlooked, as these will offer you a great chance to bargain for a lower price.

The cabin of a car is very important, as while the exterior is for others to look at and envy you, the interiors offer an actual ownership experience. The Tiago offers a fantastic cabin that perfectly goes with its ‘Fantastico’ tag. Thus, it is important that you check that all the interior bits are in place and in good condition of the used Tiago you are considering. However, don’t worry if the floor mats are dirty or torn, as you can again try to lower the cost by pointing lack of maintenance and can easily buy and throw in new floor mats, once the car is yours.

Always check for overall good maintenance of the car and finally check for all the important documents to ensure that you are buying from the actual owner and not unknowingly buying a stolen car. As the Tiago is new car in the market, all pre-owned Tiago’s that might be available in the market must all come with original manufacturer warranty and car insurance. So, make sure all these documents are also handed over to you, and you can be peaceful about Tata Motors taking care of your car if something goes wrong going ahead.

Now, just before you embark upon the task of looking for a used, but as good as a showroom new Tata Tiago, take a look at the car itself:

The Tata Tiago was initially unveiled by Indian car maker as the Zica which is the short form of ‘Zippy Car’. However, the name Zica had to be changed owing to the nasty and lethal similar sounding Zika virus that spread quickly across the world. Tata Motors renamed the Zica as the Tiago through a name-hunt voting competition.

The Tata Tiago has been designed aggressively to fight it out with the likes of the popular Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai i10 in the Indian compact hatchback segment, but when its visual appeal, features and capabilities are concerned it seems to be a proper rival of the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10 from a notch above segment.

When it comes to dimensions, the Tata Tiago is 3,746 mm long, 1,647 mm wide and 1,535 mm high, and sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,400 mm. It offers a ground clearance of 170 mm and fuel tank capacity of 35 liters. It also offers a good boot capacity of 242 liters.

Under the hood, the Tiago gets powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol mill that has the capability to generate a max power output of 85 PS and 114 Nm of top torque, and a 1.05L 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel motor that is good to deliver a peak power of 70 PS and atop torque of 140 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engines are paired to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox, while the AMT gearbox choice is expected to be introduced soon with the petrol version. The petrol engine version offers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.84 km per liter, while the diesel version offers a mileage of 27.28 km per liter.

The Tata Tiago is loaded with many attractive features including Harman ConnectNext Infotainment system, Smart phone based TBT navigation, 8 speaker audio system, Steering mounted controls, Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD and much more. It is priced very competitively in the range of Rs. 3.43 – Rs. 6.03 lakhs.
