On Saturday, August 8, St. Mary’s County honored all the great volunteer firefighters and rescue volunteers with a day of appreciation for all they do for the citizens of the county. The annual Appreciation Day has been going on for almost two decades and is a day when fire and rescue volunteers get to be busy having fun instead of running emergency calls and saving lives.
The event was held under the towering shade trees in front of the government center in Leonardtown. There were picnic tables, food stands, moon bounces and slides for the children and a beer truck. All afternoon, firefighters and emergency workers were treated to just about anything they wanted, including bushels of hard crabs courtesy of the Seventh District Optimists among many contributing organizations and the County Commissioners.
Other contributors were the Leonardtown Rotary Club, St. Mary’s Hospital, many St. Mary’s Lions Clubs, Bailey’s Party Rentals and more.
