CCSO Congratulates Citizens Police Academy Class

WALDORF, Md. - Congratulations to the recent graduates of our Fifth Citizens Police Academy Class! This 12-week program allowed participants to learn many behind-the-scenes aspects of the CCSO. They studied a wide range of topics including patrol procedures, narcotics investigations, forensic evidence, criminal law, juvenile issues, use of force, criminal investigations, and search and seizure. Class members also had the opportunity to tour the CCSO Headquarters, Charles County Detention Center, Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy, Crime Lab, and Charles County Courthouse. Hands-on experiences included a Firearms Training Simulator (FATS) and crime scene processing.

"We are proud to have had the opportunity to host our Citizens Police Academy again this year," said Sheriff Troy Berry. "Building and strengthening police and community relations is imperative to our success as an Agency, and this is an important part of that process. We are thankful for the flexibility of the class members and instructors, who ensured that we could complete the course safely and thoroughly."

The CCSO plans to continue to host the Citizens Police Academy annually in the fall. This is a valuable opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning more about the realities of policing, and we look forward to having another fantastic group next year!
