Basement Fire Damages Home

DUNKIRK, Maryland -- A basement fire damaged a Dunkirk, Maryland home on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, the blaze happened just after 11:30 am on Saturday.

The VFD responded to a house fire on Tenley Place in Dunkirk at 11:36 am. When first responders arrived at the scene, smoke was visible on all four sides of the two-story home. The homeowner told firefighters the fire was in the basement.

Crews from Dunkirk VFD Engine 52 forced entry into an exterior basement door and extinguished the flames in the basement. Crews from Huntingtown VFD Engine 62, extinguished fire in the living room. 

Firefighters from the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department laddered the house to open up walls for the engine companies. 

Firefighters spent 3 hours at the scene getting the flames under control.
