Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Collision Update

On December 1,  at approximately 1:24 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a hit and run accident on Brighton Avenue in Lexington Park, Maryland. Investigation reveals a 2007 Kia 4 door passenger vehicle operated by Gerald Gerome Keemer, 43 of Lusby, was traveling northbound on Brighton Avenue when a 4-year-old male entered the roadway.  Keemer’s vehicle struck the juvenile.  Mr. Keemer briefly exited the vehicle and made contact with the care giver of the child.  Keemer then reentered his vehicle and left the scene of the collision prior to the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies.

The 4-year-old was flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to Children’s Hospital where he was admitted for his injuries.

Information from the scene led to the development of Gerald Gerome Keemer as the possible operator of the suspect vehicle.  On December 1, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Keemer contacted the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s District IV Station where he was met by deputies, transported to Sheriff’s Office Headquarters and interviewed.  At the conclusion of the interview, Keemer was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving while his license is suspended.
