Failed Sobriety Tests Lead to Drug Bust

On Dec. 4, at 1:05 a.m., Joseph Michael Burkhard III, 27 of La Plata, was arrested by Tpr. E. J. Page for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. 

Burkhard was operating a white Ford Ranger north bound Three Notch Road in Charlotte Hall when he was stopped on Mt. Wolf Road for an equipment violation.  Upon contact with the driver, Burkhard, Tpr. Page detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath.  Burkhard was not able to satisfactorily perform the roadside field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. 

Burkhard was found to be in possession of a metal socket containing Marijuana and a plastic baggie of Marijuana.  
Burkhard was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was issued several traffic citations and charged with DUI and Possession of Marijuana and CDS Paraphernalia.
