Local Politicians Wait Tables to Raise Awareness for Premature Birth

  • By

The Greene Turtle-La Plata and March of Dimes recently teamed up for a fundraising event held at the local sports bar and grille. The fundraiser, coined “Politicians for Preemies”, teamed local politicians with Greene Turtle employees as they worked a night shift at the restaurant. Together, the politicians and the staff served food, drinks and helped March of Dimes raised awareness about premature birth.

The event was part of The Greene Turtle’s Funds for Friends program, which on this night helped raise over $200 for March of Dimes through a combination of the program and a silent auction. Funds for Friends is a program created by The Greene Turtle Franchising Corporation President and C.E.O. Michael Sanford in 2005. The partnership between a The Greene Turtle restaurant and a selected community partner raises funds for their individual programs.

Organizations, such as March of Dimes, reserve a selected weekday to host their personal Funds for Friends event in which they decorate the restaurant with their organizations’ colors and logos. They also recruit members, friends and family of their organization to attend to make each day-long event a fantastic experience to raise these funds.

In return, The Greene Turtle donates 10 percent of the entire day’s receipts to the specific organization.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.  With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies.
