St. Mary's (MD) Women's Basketball Cruises to 86-59 Victory over Neumann College

Freshman forward Allie Scott (Laurel, MD/Atholton) posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in leading the St. Mary's College women's basketball team to an impressive 86-59 victory over Neumann College on Friday evening. With the win, the Seahawks snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 2-6 overall on the season. The Knights fall to 3-5 overall with the loss.

The Seahawks took command of the contest from the beginning and never allowed Neumann to have a lead of their own in the contest. St. Mary's opened the contest with a 19-5 run to give them their largest lead of the first half at 14 points with 11:51 remaining. Neumann responded with their own 20-8 run to reduce the lead to just two points at 27-25 after a made fast break lay-up from sophomore forward Amanda Rodriguez with 6:03 showing before halftime.

St. Mary's kept their composure and finished the half with a 14-5 spurt to give them an 11-point lead at halftime, 41-30.

The second half was all St. Mary's as they built up a 24-point lead less than five minutes into the half. The Seahawks saw their largest lead of 32 points at 80-48 with 4:28 remaining in the contest.

Along with Scott's performance in the post for the Seahawks, sophomore guard Taylor Yearwood (Washington DC/Holy Cross Academy) scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Freshman guards Kristie Sweeney (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and Shannon Ambrose (Herndon, VA/Bishop O'Connell) each added 11 points in giving the Seahawks a balanced scoring attack. Sophomore guard Megan Uglik (Frederick, MD/Linganore) scored nine points with seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists. 11 of the 12 players to see action for St. Mary's posted double-digit minutes in the game.

For the Knights, senior guard/forward Nellie Mixon and senior forward Kirsten Patton each tallied nine points. Sophomore guard Syreeta Brown added eight points while sophomore forward Ashley Leonard added seven points. Mixon led the team in rebounding with nine in the contest while Patton and Leonard both added seven rebounds.

The Seahawks will return to action on Sunday, December 11, when they host Mary Baldwin College in a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
