Crews Rescue Several People Stranded in Flood Waters

LEONARDTOWN, Md. - On November 11, 2020 at approximately 10:12 P.M., Raft 5 was dispatched to Point Lookout Road in the area of Chingville for a vehicle in the water. While responding, the assignment was held with Company 6 units and Raft 5 was diverted to another vehicle in the water on Medleys Neck Road. Brush 5 and Raft 5 arrived on the scene and were deployed to the vehicle. Two rescue personnel dressed out in water rescue suits and utilized Raft 5 to remove two people from the bed of a truck that had washed off the roadway in the rising water. Both occupants were brought back to dry land and declined EMS.

While headed back to quarters, another vehicle in the water was dispatched in the same area on Medleys Neck Road. Brush 5 and Raft 5 responded on the call. Raft 5 was again utilized to remove two occupants of an SUV that was stranded in the flood water. Both occupants were brought back to Engine 10 without incident. Chief 1 held command of both incidents while Chief 7B held the rescue division. Squad 1, Engine 10 and Raft 7 also operated.

We urge everyone please do not attempt to drive through high water and stay of the roads if possible during the flood warning. Turn Around Don't Drown!
