Storm Threatens Beach Front Properties

At approximately 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 13, the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to Beach Drive in Neeld Estate for a possible home washing into the Bay.

On arrival Chief 6 found five homes with possible impact from ongoing storm conditions. There were three homes in serious condition as water was against their foundation on Beach Drive. One home had conditions that impacted the deck off rear of home and another home with the least impact as water was approaching.

The fire department made entry into any homes they could without doing forcible entry with permission of home owner or another person that had access to turn the power off for safety reasons.

Family members and friends as well as some of the volunteers from Huntingtown helped out with sand bags to protect the homes as much as possible; trying to save the structures from the incoming high tide which was at 12:30 p.m.

Huntingtown VFD remained on the scene until after the tide crested. However there was nothing that could be done to stop further damage to the structures.
