Rain and Wind Damaged Tree Falls on Car Traveling in Redgate

At approximately 6 a.m., emergency volunteers from Leonardtown and Second District responded to the area near 22629 Point Lookout Rd. in Redgate, for a reported car accident involving a tree.

When units arrived, they discovered that a tree damaged by recent wind and rains that had fallen onto a vehicle driving in the northbound lanes. Fortunately, the fallen tree did not cause any injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

With all the rain that has accumulated combined with high winds, residents are cautioned to watch for more falling branches or trees during this weather event. Falling trees will also continue to cause sporadic power outages across the region.

SMECO crews are working to restore power outages in Calvert and St. Mary’s County where approximately 1300 people are without power in the two counties combined.
