Cheering Their Way to the Top

On Tuesday, Nov 9, the top nine schools in the South Region converged for a spirited and wildly cheerful battle at North Point High School for the Maryland State Regional Finals. Schools representing Anne Arundel, Howard, Charles and St. Mary's Counties showed up and battled hard for the four spots in the State Finals.

St Mary's County was represented by the Leonardtown Raiders and Charles County had LaPlata and North Point competing. After a number of very hard decisions by the field of nine judges, Chesapeake was crowned Regional Champions with 311 points. North County (301), Howard (299) and Long Ridge (297) all advanced to the State finals to be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at North Point High School starting at 3 p.m.
The competitions are all sponsored by the Maryland State Cheerleading Association. The second cheerleading season starts immediately after the state championships with each school having Winter tryouts at various times next week.
