Russell Earl Pilling, 78, of Callaway, MD died on September 14, 2002 at the St. Mary?s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. He was born on October 24, 1923 in Malden, MA the son of the late Joseph and Jennie Ida Shaw Pilling. He served in the U.S. Army in France during WWII where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart. On September 7, 1946 he married Ruth E. Schohn at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, Malden, MA, They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. In 1961 the family moved to Bel Air, MD where he was a Chief Draftsman for Sweetheart Cup Corporation of Baltimore, MD. He retired from engineering and pursued a lengthy career in the Insurance Industry moving to Ocala, FL in 1985. After retiring from Insurance in 19994, Russ and Ruth returned to Maryland to the current residence in Callaway to be closer to their grandchildren. Russ was an active Mason and Shriner and was past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Malden MA, among his hobbies he enjoyed woodworking and became an accomplished cabinet maker, for many local residents Russ will be remembered as ?the coffee man? at the Sheetz on Rt. 235 in California, MD where he has worked five mornings a week for the past two years. In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, a daughter, Faye Snyder of Leonardtown, MD and two sons, Dana Pilling of Ocala, FL and Mark Pilling of Lusby, MD, four grandchildren also survive.
