Michael Anthony Murphy, 68 of Ridge, MD died on January 6, 2003 at the Civista Medical Center, Laplata, MD. He was born on May 29, 1934 in Latrobe, PA the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Molk Murphy. After graduating from the Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD in 1957, Mr. Murphy served his country in the US Navy from 1957 until 1977, retiring as a LCDR. He received the Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal One Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. While in the Navy he was stationed in St. Mary?s County in 1968, and decided to make it his home. He went to work for Dyncorp, USNAS Pax River retiring in 1997. Mr. Murphy deciding that the retirement life was not for him than went to work for St. Mary?s College, St. Mary?s City, MD where he worked until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Michael?s Catholic Church, Ridge, MD. His wife Alma Rae Councilman Murphy, of St. Inigoes, MD, his children, Alma E. Long, of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Patrick Murphy, of Los Angeles, CA, Patrick Walter Murphy, of Mechanicsville, MD and Angus Daniel Murphy, of St. Inigoes, MD, three sisters, Mary Broad, of Midland, MI, Bernadette Pevarnik and sister Cecelia Murphy, R.S.M. both of Latrobe, PA, two brothers, Hugh and Eugene Murphy, of Latrobe, PA, three grandchildren also survive, two sisters, Sister Perpetua Murphy, S.C. and Ann Rusnock and a brother Vincent P. Murphy preceded him in death. Friends may call on Sunday, January 12, 2003 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the St. Michael?s Catholic Church, 16555 Three Notch Road, Ridge, MD, prayers will be recited at 5:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2003 at 10:00 am. The Reverend Maurice O?Connell will be the celebrant. Interment will be on February 3, 2003 at 9:00 am at the Arlington National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted.
