Faiery Thorne

Faiery ?Faye? Violet Thorne, 86, of Mission Viejo, California, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at her daughter?s residence from complications associated with Alzheimer?s. Mrs. Thorne was born on Asquith Island of Dorchester County, MD on March 20, 1916 to the late Walter Milton Slacum and Denia ?Denie? Gertrude Meekins Slacum Denny. She is survived by one daughter; Jean S. Dineen of Mission Viejo, California, and one son; Paul Eugene Thorne, Jr. of Crosby, Texas, two sisters; Mary Roberts of California and Ruth Denny of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; Paul Eugene Thorne, Sr. USN, Ret.; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Porter Russell, one son; James Wesley Porter; four sisters; Lucy Simmons; Nellie Insley; Catherine Marcuchio; Allene Dawson and one brother; Carl Slacum, and one grandchild, Pvt. Ted Andrew Russell, U.S.M.C. During WWII, she worked at the Glenn L. Martin Company of Baltimore where she started as a riveter, moved to the typing pool and later became an executive secretary. Later she became a housewife and mother who enjoyed several hobbies, including fashion, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed making new friends as she and her husband traveled with the Navy and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company over the years. They spent their retirement years in Beeville and Crosby, Texas. Serving as Pallbearers are: Timothy Dineen, Paul E. Thorne, Jr., Mark Russell, Dale Russell, Sr., Chris Jones, and Dale Russell, Jr. Family will receive friends Saturday, August 17, 2002 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 17, 2002 at 12:00 noon in the Brinsfield Funeral home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Great Mills, Maryland. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Alzheimer?s Association Greater Washington Chapter, Southern MD, P.O. Box 1889, Laplata, MD 20646 and/or Orange County Chapter, 2540 North Santiago Blvd., Orange, CA 92867.
