Four students from Leonardtown Elementary spoke at a memorial ceremony in Leonardtown Square

on Friday, alongside other speakers that included Steny Hoyer and Lt. Governor Steele.

The students wrote winning essays, which they read from, entitled “What Veterans' Day Means To Me.”

Nicole Clark, Erin Johnson, Rebecca Sachs, and Maria Williams each presented their own interpretations of the meaning of Veterans’ Day. Senator Roy Dyson was particularly impressed by the students’ comments, as was Lt. Governor Steele, who followed them.

“Nothing is as nice as the words of children,” said Steele.
