Emily Richards is a Face in the Crowd Worthy of Note

  • By

St. Mary’s College’s field hockey goalkeeper Emily Richards is featured in the recent issue (Monday, October 31) of Sports Illustrated, in the "Faces in the Crowd" section.

Richards, a sophomore from Silver Spring, was chosen for the magazine in recognition of her accomplishments in leading the field hockey program to their record setting season to date. In her very first collegiate start, Richards recorded a career-high 20 saves in a 3-1 loss to the two-time defending national champion, Salisbury University.

Richards has also set new school records for wins in a season (12) and shutouts (5). She has allowed just 16 goals this season with a 1.06 goals against average. She has also tallied 106 saves with a .869 save percentage. She was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player-of-the-Week on September 26th.

As a team, the Seahawks are 12-4 overall and have already set new team records for wins in a season (12), total shutouts (8), consecutive wins (8), and are on pace to set new records in fewest goals allowed and save percentage.
