Vehicle Strikes Sign In The Median Of Three Notch Road; One Person Injured

CALIFORNIA, Md. -- We are receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle crash this afternoon that left one person injured as the result of what has been described as a medical emergency.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on October 11, first responders were called to the scene of a crash in the 23000 block of Three Notch Road. Initial reports indicated that the vehicle had traveled from the northbound lane across the median and into the other side of the road.

Upon arrival, crews discovered that the vehicle had struck a road sign and that the driver of the vehicle was unconscious and believed to not be breathing.

Reports indicated that a passing by person had stopped to assist by giving CPR, however they needed to receive instructions from first responders over the phone.

Soon after they arrived, a determination was made that the patient's blood sugar was high and that the accident was likely the result of a medical emergency. Crews would try to administer an IV to the patient upon arrival, but would be unable to.

No other vehicles or patients were involved in the accident. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and with high blood sugar following the crash.

Police are advising to avoid the area if at all possible and to expect delays if traveling in the area.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide additional details as they become available.
