Saving the Bay, one yard at a time

Prince Frederick, MD - October 5, 2019 – The Friends of Hunting Creek and the Friends of St. Leonard Creek are partnering with the American Chestnut Land Trust and the Calvert County Master Gardeners to host Saving the Bay, One Yard at a Time on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at Calvert Library, located at 850 Costley Way in Prince Frederick.

The event will feature a Bay-Wise presentation by the Calvert County Master Gardeners, which will discuss how changing a few landscaping practices can help keep local creeks and the Chesapeake Bay healthy. Event goers will also receive information about pollinator and rain gardens, composting techniques and what to do with all of those fall leaves in the yard.

According to the University of Maryland Extension Bay-Wise website, most Maryland residents live within a half-mile of a storm drain, stream or river.  Most of those waterways eventually drain into the Chesapeake Bay.  What community members do to maintain their own landscapes can affect the health of local waterways, the Chesapeake Bay and the environment.

This event will provide a wealth of knowledge as well as food and prizes! Register by emailing
