Family escapes house fire uninjured

Monday, Oct. 22, around 9:30 a.m., units from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) and surrounding agencies responded to the 10600 block of Ashford Circle, Waldorf for a house fire. 

Crews arrived to the scene and discovered a two-story home with an attached garage with fire throughout the structure. 

According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, 40 firefighters on scene were about to extinguish the fire in 30 minutes. The incident reportedly caused and estimated $110,000 worth of damage. 

Investigation revealed the cause of the fire to be accidental.  The occupants stated they smelled a burning odor in the home and went to investigate.  Upon entering the garage, the occupants noticed a fire within the garage.  All occupants were able to evacuate the home safely. 

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.


Waldorf, MD - Crews from Charles and Prince George’s counties responded to a late-morning house fire in the Westlake subdivision of Waldorf Monday, Oct. 22, local fire officials reported. The fire was reported sometime around 11 p.m. According to Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services Public Information Officer Bill Smith, 40 firefighters were dispatched to the burning two-story dwelling on Ashford Circle. “There are no injuries and all occupants are accounted for,” Smith stated.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze and a report is pending.
