Commissioners Proclaim Oct. 5 as Manufacturing Day

Leonardtown, MD - During the St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting Tuesday, Oct. 2, the BOCC proclaimed Oct. 5 as Manufacturing Day.

At the meeting were four manufacturing companies from the area—Platform Aerospace, JF Taylor, Engility, and CTSi. All had representatives present for the proclamation.

Commissioner Todd Morgan [R- District 4] commented on the day before giving the proclamation, stating, “We’re trying to diversify our economy away from the base [PAX NAS]. We believe this is one of our more robust opportunities to expand and build our economy.”

Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Secretary, Kelly M. Shulz will tour both Engility and Platform Aerospace Friday.

According to the Maryland Department of Commerce, as of 2017 manufactures in St. Mary’s County employ an average of 413 employees annually, a rate of employment of .9 percent, at 33 establishments.

Platform Aerospace, JF Taylor, and Engility will open their doors Friday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to members of the public.
