Police academy director escapes injury in crash


Brandywine, MD - On Oct. 29 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Keith Hicks, the director of the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy, was travelling south along Maryland Route 301 north of Chaddsford Road. 

A small gray passenger vehicle entered the southbound lanes of Rt. 301 from the crossover north of Chaddsford Road into the path of travel of the Crown Victoria Hicks was operating. Hicks was not injured during the crash. The crash is being investigated by the Maryland State Police, Forestville Barrack.

Hicks had recently retired from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office before assuming the director’s post at the region’s Criminal Justice Academy.
