The weekend before Halloween in Southern Maryland was filled with a number of events on both land and water for both kids and pets.

One of the most unusual events was on the water. At Historic St. Mary’s City, the “Dove,” the recreation of the smaller of the two ships that brought the settlers in Maryland, was transformed into a haunted ship. The trick or treaters could come aboard the ship, meet a pirate and make crafts.

Leonardtown was filled with two- and four-legged ghosts and goblins for the annual Trick or Treat on the Square. Shops were filled with treats and a number of events were held throughout the town. St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League was on hand to take pictures of costumed pets. There was also face painting and a pumpkin decorating contest.

Pets also had their day with photos at Pepper’s Pet Pantry in Solomons by Second Hope Rescue and a pet costume contest at PetValu in Leonardtown. Second Hope Rescue was also on hand at the Leonardtown store for a pet adoption event,
Halloween in the Garden at Annemarie Garden in Solomons also took place on Saturday (see separate story and Photo Gallery).

Please enjoy the pictures of the above events in the attached Photo Gallery by Ron Bailey (Haunted Ship), Dick Myers (Trick or Treat on the Square and at PetValu) and Max Tayman (pet photos at Pepper’s).
