Local Optimists install new officers

The Optimist Club of Calvert-Prince Frederick has elected and installed Forrest Moore as Club President for 2013-2014. President Moore and the Board of Directors were installed Oct. 7 by Past Optimist International Vice President Dick Price.


Serving with Moore on the Club’s Board of Directors for the 2013-2014 year are: Internal Vice-president Kelly McConkey, External Vice-president Jack Boswell, Treasurer Bunk Horsmon, and Secretary Ed Dorsey.  Serving as Directors for the Club will be John Horsmon, Bob Merkle, Tom Parran III, Cliff Savoy, Kathy Smith, Barbara Stinnett and Past President Darryl Mansfield


“It is an honor to have been chosen as the leader of such a dedicated group for the coming year,” Moore said. “I am proud to be part of work the Calvert Optimist Club accomplishes each year for the youth of the County and hope that we can continue to grow in our service and programs. I invite everyone who has a desire to help Calvert‘s young citizens to join our membership in the year ahead”.


The Optimist Club of Calvert-Prince Frederick has supported the youth of Calvert County since its founding in 1968. Programs and service projects which the Club is involved include: Youth Appreciation Week, Calvert County Fair, Halloween Parade and Party, Hunter Safety Training Course, Oratorical and Essay Contests, Respect for Law, Fishing Tournament, Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets for the needy, Calvert Christmas Parade, Calvert Shop with A Cop, Books for Babies, Childhood Cancer Campaign, Calvert High Junior Optimist Club, Optimist Scholarship Program, HOBY Leadership Conference and the Calvert Community Bulletin Board.  These programs and services are provided by funding raised through the Optimist Bingo and the Club’s annual Christmas Tree Sales adjacent to the Prince Frederick Safeway.
