On Saturday, October 8, 2005, Tpr. K. Shughart responded to Wal-Mart, California for a reported fight in progress.  On arrival Tpr. Shughart observed three Wal-Mart employees holding a subject down on the ground and several customers forming a crowd around the subjects.  The subject was later identified as Jerry Lewis Gray, 45, of Lexington Park.  Mr. Gray was very combative and shouting threats at everyone who was holding him down.
After Mr. Gray was secured and the investigation revealed that a theft prevention officer observed Mr. Gray placing items in his coat.  When Mr. Gray attempted to leave without paying he was confronted by two theft prevention officers.

Mr. Gray began to swing his arms trying to hit the officers.  Both theft prevention officers took Mr. Gray down to the ground.  As they was wrestling, Mr. Gray pulled a pair of scissors from his pocket and tried to stab and/or cut both of them.

Mr. Gray was arrested and charged with two counts of 2nd degree assault, theft under $100 and disorderly conduct.  A check through Miles/NCIC showed Mr. Gray had an open warrant in Charles County for failing to appear in Circuit Court.  Mr. Gray was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review.  A detainer was also filed from Charles County on Mr. Gray.
