St. Mary’s County Public School Students Returning to School in the Fall

LEONARDTOWN, Md. - St. Mary’s County Public Schools hosted a virtual town hall on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the return to school in Fall 2020. Dr. J. Scott Smith, Superintendent, shared information with the community, to include topics such as:  COVID-19 Guidance for Maryland Schools, getting connected with technology resources, and Special Education.

Updates from (9/2/2020) Town Hall:

Starting September 21 up through October 2: Specialized programs will return to school including Head Start, PreK, SAIL and COMPASS.  These students will return to regular schedule with in-person instruction being delivered each school day (Monday - Thursday).

October 5 through October 16: Additional grades will be phased in, including Kindergarten, 1st grade, 6th grade, 9th grade and 12th grade.  Students will begin HYBRID model with in-person instruction 2 days per week (either M/W or Tu/Th) and online instruction 3 days per week.

October 19 through October 30: All remaining grades will be phased in to a HYBRID model with in-person instruction 2 days per week (either M/W or Tu/Th) and online instruction 3 days per week.

2nd Marking Period: All grades will continue with HYBRID model.

Through all of this, there will be parental choice - whether you want to continue completely virtual learning or move to the hybrid model.  About 2 weeks before your student's grade is to be phased in, you will receive a survey asking whether or not you want your child to come back to in person instruction and if so, do you want to drive your child to school or have them ride the bus.  The decision will need to be made for the ENTIRE QUARTER due to scheduling demands.
