LA PLATA, Maryland - - First responders from the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department saved a person's life by cutting them out of a vehicle after a fiery early-morning crash on Sunday.

According to the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department, the crash happened on Port Tobacco Road near Aurelia place. RS8 and Tanker 8 answered a call for a vehicle crash with entrapment and fire.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered one vehicle on fire and an occupant pinned inside a second vehicle.

First responders from RS8 sprang into action to help remove the pinned patient from the car.

Tanker 8 assisted Rescue Engine 1 by supplying water for the auto fire.  We told you earlier this weekend about the new Rescue Engine 1, delivered earlier in the month to the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department.

VFD President Stephen Shahan said, "The new truck replaces a similar engine in the fleet. But there are important differences. "The new cab design provides improved safety features and more room in the passenger compartment. The engine is much more environmentally friendly with cleaner emissions output."
