Charlotte Hall Fire Does $35,000 in Damage

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - It took 35 Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department firefighters half an hour to extinguish a Monday afternoon blaze on Oaks Road in Charlotte Hall.


According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the fire broke out just before 3:30 p.m. on the exterior of a 30' by 30' detached garage. The fire started in the area of a tall plastic storage container. It was discovered by the homeowner.

No one was injured but the garage was severely damaged. The damage to the building is estimated at $30,000. An additional $5,000 worth of contents were also lost.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.  Anyone with information can call the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Southern Regional Office, at 443-550-6835.
