2 Canoers Rescued in Charles County

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. - Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS members rescued two men from the Potomac River Wednesday night after their canoe flipped over. The whole operation took less than an hour.

Volunteers responded to the Potomac River Near Morgantown Road at 10:26 pm after receiving a report of a boat flipped over in the water.

Newburg Volunteer Fire Boat #14, Cobb Island Volunteer Boat #6, Tenth District Volunteer Boat #8 and the dive units from the dive rescue company were dispatched.

First responders set up a command center and Boat #14 quickly spotted two males in the water. With the assistance of Aviation Trooper #7, Boat #14 rescued the canoers. The men said they were the only ones onboard the canoe.

Boat #14 brought the men to shore. The men refused medical treatment or transport. Command released all units within an hour of the beginning of the incident.
