Dream Queen Foundation Inc. expanded career and leadership program

Leonardtown, MD -  September 4, 2019 – We are thrilled to announce that the Dream Queen Foundation Inc. has expanded their signature career and leadership development program to all public high schools in St. Mary’s County plus Westlake High School in Charles County.   Together with certified facilitators and local area community leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, the program will support 100 teenage girls from September 2019 – May 2020.

The program teaches teen girls the responsibility and role of leadership, helps them develop a life-long love for learning, and ultimately equips them to transform the 7 Cultural Spheres of Influence that define our world today: Government, Business, Education, Religion, Family, Media, & Arts/Entertainment.

With a curriculum built on Four Pillars of Success (Know Yourself, Dream Big, Overcome Obstacles, and Take Action) students engage in meaningful conversation, deeper connection, and more career clarity.

Highlights of the program include personality and strengths assessments, vision boards, sister circle sharing sessions, and guest speakers that share on the following topics: Managing Money, Importance of Good Credit, Managing Time, Getting Organized, Creating Action Plans, Embracing Diversity, Accountability and Mentoring, Great First Impressions, Interviewing Skills, Student Financial Aid, Scholarships, Preparing for College, Resume Writing, Social Etiquette, Healthy Eating & Fitness, Dressing for Success, and Loving the Skin You're In, among others.

Over the past 5 years, Gals Lead has worked directly with over 250 teen girls, held 5 weekend retreats, and club programs in Southern Maryland. Great Mills high school begins its fourth year of the 9-month-long Club Program, Chopticon and Westlake High Schools enter their second year, and Leonardtown launches this year.  The impact of the program is best described by our students and facilitators.

Abi C (junior) says, “As a result of attending the Gals Lead Teen Program I'm feeling more confident, motivated, and prepared for dealing with difficult situations. I learned some good tools on overcoming things that are impeding progress in the future. I also liked getting close with the other girls."

Former facilitator, Julie Hammond of Great Mills High School, shares “It gives me joy to help the girls create a space where they can share and connect with each other, discovering that they have more in common then they realized.”

Dee Scott, Facilitator of Westlake High School, shares “the greatest lesson we are teaching them is the value of choices and that they have the power to control their destiny and it starts with the power of positive words and setting their intention daily.”
