The REX celebrates their one year anniversary

Good foods come to those that wait, and many of us were excited to have The Rex come to Leonardtown.

Since opening their doors, their friendly staff has been serving up customers some of the best and creative food combinations in SoMD. And if you blink the menu changes, about every three months, to offer something else to make your taste buds burst.

Joe Kurley was the general manager of the Tiki Bar for many years before he started The REX with his friend, Darrin Atlas. Together they decided to secure the old movie theater and resurrect it as a favorite spot for food, drinks and entertainment in the heart of Leonardtown.

On certain nights, you can even watch an old black and white movie on one of their TV’s as a nice reminder and tribute to the buildings’ past.

They have the awesome DJ Papers shredding it up for the patrons with some great tunes. On other nights you can find talented artists, like Justin Myles, playing and singing for your entertainment.

When the weather cooperates, you will find the front doors wide-open which allows people to eat outside and still enjoy the atmosphere and music within.

As I write this I can taste those freshly-made potato chips that come with many of the dishes. They’re addicting!! The crunch and lightly sea salt flavor; I might run over for an order right now.

To get you started, how about some fancy popcorn loaded with bacon, cheddar cheese and chives. Or get right to the goods; Turtle popcorn filled with caramel, chocolate chips and peanuts.

Next try the Grilled Chicken Salad with Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette, Mac-N-Cheese or Quiche to get you ready for the next round. If you are thirsty, there is a wonderful staff to make sure your drinks are perfectly made to your specifications.

The Naan Flatbread Pizza, Honey Baked Brie and Trio of Dips with grilled pita and crackers are all great choices from the small plate menu but there are plenty of others to try.

Lotus Signature Turkey Club, Grilled Chicken on Ciabatta bread, Grilled Talapia over Tortellini Salad and The REX Burger are just a few of the mouth-watering meals you can order.

Seared Salmon is a special item being offered on occasion and you gotta stop by for “Pint Night” or devour the wings for happy hour.

The Rex has had fundraisers for great causes in our community, like Foundation 4 Heroes’ event to benefit Gabriel Sanchez, and even had an interactive murder mystery dinner theater. The place is really cool.

If you get the chance, come by Saturday Evening to help them celebrate and check out some live music and try some of their great foods. The party starts at 6:30pm.
