Leonardtown: a very tasty place to be

Leonardtown, MD -- With sunny skies and a hint of fall in the air, crowds flocked to the Leonardtown town square on Sunday to pig out. The annual Taste of St. Mary’s had a number of activities, including children’s games, a car show and music. But, as usual the food took top billing.

Eaters (and drinkers) purchased tickets to be used at as many of the twenty vendors who could be creatively fit into one’s budget and appetite.

This year, armed with $20 worth of tickets, this writer, after spending one ticket on a bottle of water, feasted on sausage (twice) from Chiefs Bar/WJ Dent and Sons, Maryland crab soup from Morris Point Restaurant, curry chicken from Flex Island Jamaican Grill, chicken salad sliders from Café des Artistes, imperial crab from Stoney’s Solomons Pier, and cream of crab soup and peach cobbler from Boomerangs Original Ribs and Seafood. And I had a dollar ticket left over to take home a donut from Dunkin’ Donuts for breakfast on Monday. And then I waddled home.

Other vendors who participated were: Anita’s Cake Shop, Bear Creek BBQ, Bollywood Masala, Bruster's Real Ice Cream, Clarke’s Landing Corn, Days Off Deli & Grill, McKay’s, M&N Oriental Market and Carryout (which had the consistently longest lines), Nicolletti’s Pizza, Noodles and Company, Port of Leonardtown Winery, Slack Winery and Sonic.

Music was provided during the day by Unfinished Business and GeeZer. The kids’ activities included face painting, moon bounce and art activity. And there was a TV for those who really couldn’t pull themselves away from the Redskins game.

The Taste of St. Mary’s is put on by the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce with the financial assistance of a number of sponsors.
