Calvert’s youth enjoys annual fair

Barstow, MD – Sunshine and locked school buildings countywide brought hordes of children, many in tow with their parents, to the Calvert County Fairgrounds Friday, Sept. 26. The 2014 Calvert County Fair’s Youth Day was a huge success as fairgoers maxed out the main parking lot and nearly did the same with the satellite location. Large school buses slowly wended their way from Hallowing Point Park, up the steep incline of Route 231 and eventually to the fairgrounds.

There was plenty for attendees to do with carnival rides, exhibits and live local entertainment.

The 2014 fair’s special attractions—Aussie Kingdom and Fast Action Motorsport NASCAR Racing—drew hundreds of onlookers.

The final two days of the fair include much to savor. Saturday, Sept. 27’s agenda includes an autograph signing session with legendary members of the Washington Redskins, the 4-H livestock auction, the annual horse pull and the conclusion of the Calvert County Idol contest.

Sunday, Sept. 28 is the fair’s final day and highlights include the antique tractor pull, horseshoe pitching contest, the woodcarver auction and live music by Bill Yates and the Country Gentlemen Tribute Band. The fair will officially close at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Satellite parking both days will be available at the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick campus.
