Holiday Inn Express coming to St. Mary's County

Ground will be broken soon for a new Holiday Inn Express in St. Mary’s County. The 103-room motel will be located in Park Place on Route 235 in California. The motel will be located behind the Cracker Barrel and next to the SAIC office Building off Shady Mile Lane.

Licensee of the new motel is P.C. Patel, who also owns the Comfort Inn and Suites on Route 235 and Donut Connection, both in Lexington Park. Patel told the Bay Net that he feels there is a market for another motel in the area even though several others have popped up recently. One of the amenities of the motel will be an indoor pool.

Park Place is owned and was developed by Custom Metal, Inc. (CMI) of Charlotte Hall. Their president John Parlett said the zoning is in place for the motel. He said a motel site was also included in plans for the development that now includes four restaurants along the Route 235 frontage (Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Red Robin and Cracker Barrel), along with the SAIC headquarters building. Parlett said the site being sold is 2.329 acres in size.

The closest Holiday Inn to the new motel is in Solomons. There is also one in Prince Frederick. The Holiday Inn brand is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). According to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, “It is one of the world's largest hotel chains with 434,357 bedrooms and 3,414 hotels globally. There are over 100 million guest nights each year, globally.”
