Crowds Clamor for Local Cuisine at A Taste of St. Mary's

On Sunday, Sept. 19, hoards of hungry people were treated to The Taste of St. Mary's on the Leonardtown Square. The event, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, featured fifteen local restaurants, offering up sample-sized portions of their signature dishes.

Food tickets sold for a dollar each and visitors sampled entrees, appetizers and desserts along with wine, from the Port of Leonardtown Winery, and beer. The broad variety of food had many ticket holders facing the hard decision of which dishes to try and the phenomenal number of people in attendance kept vendors busy serving their savory samples.
Three musical acts performed, filling the square with great music and a raffle gave the chance to win gift certificates to participating restaurants. Kids had fun playing at the activity tent provided by Personalized Therapy, LLC and enjoyed free face painting as well.
Many visitors explored Historic downtown Leonardtown and the unique shops found around the square. Many also enjoyed the custom car display and a chance to meet local radio hosts T-Bone and Heather.
Tents gave patrons a shady spot to enjoy their tasty selections and many local political candidates seized the opportunity to talk to citizens while enjoying a bite to eat.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Martirano joined Delegate John Bohanan in recognizing and presenting an award to the county's champion youth tennis team.
The free, five-hour event provided good food and entertainment, bringing out families and finding friends running into each other on the warm Sunday afternoon.
