Auditions for St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s department of theater, film, and media studies’ first show of the year, George Bernard Shaw’s Arms and the Man, will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22 and 23, from 6-10 p.m., in the Bruce Davis Theater, Montgomery Hall Fine Arts Center, on the SMCM campus.

Callbacks will be held on Thursday, September 24. Performance dates are November 12-15 and 19-22, 2009. All are welcome. For further information, contact the director, Michael Ellis-Tolaydo, at or 240-895-4244.

Background Info: Set during the Serbo-Bulgarian War, Shaw’s first commercial success as a playwright is a satire of both war and love. One unique aspect: A woman is the central character.

No experience is required to audition, although reading the play beforehand is strongly recommended. Copies of the play are on reserve at the circulation desk of the college library. You and a partner will be given a scene from the play for the audition. Principal speaking roles are for five men and three women.
