Do you have a child in elementary school who struggles with homework?  Are you unsure how to help your child understand his/her homework?  If so, don’t miss the upcoming two-night workshop series called Homework Helpers for Parents held Wednesday, October 4, 2006, and Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in the Board of Education Meeting Room at 23160 Moakley Street in Leonardtown.

Homework Helpers for Parents is specifically designed for parents of students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans.  Ms. Elizabeth Cooper, St. Mary’s County Public Schools’ (SMCPS) supervisor of reading instruction, will explain strategies that parents can use at home to assist with reading, writing, and spelling homework on Wednesday, October 4, 2006,  6:30-8:30 p.m.

The second evening of Homework Helpers for Parents, held Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 6:30-8:30 p.m., will feature Ms. Becky Loker, a SMCPS instructional resource teacher for math. She will focus on various strategies that can be used when helping children with math homework.

This workshop series is made possible through the SMCPS Partners for Success Resource Center for Families and Schools.  Both evenings will include techniques that may help make homework a more positive experience.  Parents may attend one or both nights of the series. For more information, or to register for these free workshops, please contact Ms. Susan Shannon at 301-863-4069, or email
