SMECO Reports Over 20,000 Customers Without Power In SOMD As Isaias Exits

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — According to the data provided by the Southern Maryland Electrical Cooperative(SMECO), as of 11:47 a.m., there are 20,516 customers across Southern Maryland without power. SMECO services a total of 167,344 customers, meaning this outage is currently impacting roughly 12.2% of its customers.

Additionally, the tornado watch that had been in effect has been canceled across the Southern Maryland region as Hurricane Isaias begins making its exit. However, a coastal flood warning remains in effect in St. Mary’s County until 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

The total number of active outages that SMECO is reporting is 385, with the highest numbers currently coming from Mechanicsville, Prince Frederick, and Lusby.

The county that appears to have taken the greatest blow from Hurricane Isaias appears to be Calvert County who is reporting 9,049 customers without power currently out of their total 33,065 who are serviced in the county.

St. Mary’s are currently reporting that 9,033 customers are without power. This makes up approximately 16.5% of SMECO’s total customers in the county.

Charles County is currently only reporting 1,873 customers without power out of their total 68,111.
