Three groups receive contributions from SMECO

Hughesville, MD. -- The Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is sharing the wealth among three local organizations thanks to a contribution from CoBank.

SMECO recently received a $6,000 contribution from CoBank to award to local organizations than SMECO supports. The Cooperative is one of the 15 largest electric cooperatives in the United States with more than 165,000 member accounts in Charles County, St. Mary’s County, southern Prince George’s County, and most of Calvert County.

LifeStyles of Maryland, which is active in Calvert County, received $2500. The organization assists women and children in crisis with housing, transportation, and more.

The Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons received $2,500. The family- friendly museum offers live animals, fossils, and interactive exhibits.

Southern Maryland Community Resources, also located in Solomons, received $1000. The organization provides, social, recreational, and educational opportunities for those with developmental differences.

CoBank’s Sharing Success program is a $4 million fund to benefit cooperatives and the charitable groups they support. As a CoBank customer, SMECO was eligible to receive matching funds to be awarded to organizations it supports.
