Mental Health Bloc Party puts spotlight on services

Lusby, MD --  An end of summer celebration in Lusby offers family fun and also puts the spotlight on an often-neglected part of good health -- mental health.

St. Peter's and Middleham Parish in Lusby has partnered with  the Calvert County Health Department and Calvert County Sheriff's Office for the End of Summer Mental Health Bloc Party.

The event will be held at Middleham Parish Hall on Sunday, September 8, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Fun activities for kids include face painting, a T-ball pitch speed contest timed by a radar gun, and a bean bag toss along with an appearance by the DARE Lion.

Adults can test out the drunk goggles course with the with Calvert County Sheriff's Office. 

The church will provide free food, drink, and baked goods plus there will be raffles for prizes like headphones, Bluetooth speakers, power banks, and backpacks filled with school supplies.

You can also check out Calvert County Behavioral Health's new crisis van, which will provide mobile behavioral health services throughout the community and alongside our first responders in the event of a opioid-related emergency call.

Representatives from behavioral health organizations throughout the county will be there, including the  Calvert County Health Department, Calvert County Behavioral Health, Avenues Recovery Center, A+ Counseling, Project Chesapeake, Calvert Hospice, and more will be there to discusses what types of service are available.

There will also be speakers on topics relating to addiction and recovery and the impact on families as well as training on how to properly use Naloxone to save a life.
