Children’s Day at St. Clement’s Island Museum

Coltons Point, MD -- Kids enjoyed a free day of family fun at the annual Children’s Day at St. Clement’s Island Museum.

The event was held on on the waterside lawn. Families enjoyed activities including sack races, crafts, face painting, a bike raffle, snow cones and balloons.

The Water Taxi brought event-goers to and from St. Clement’s Island State Park to explore the landing site of Maryland's birthplace.

The Seventh District Fire Department and Rescue Squad had their crew on hand with sun visors for the kids to decorate as well as Fire Prevention and Safety information. A fire truck was on display next to the fire prevention table that allowed kids to tour inside.

A local DJ had everyone dancing to kid-friendly tunes and children's author Cindy Freeland gave a storybook presentation about the animals that live in and near the Chesapeake Bay.

A Snow cone machine was donated by long-time volunteer Mike Barbour who has been helping at the event for over 25 years.

Barbour says, "The optimist club has been donating the ice for the machine but this year the museum has donated all the ice needed." He went onto say, "This event is for the kids, in fact, we are all kids on the inside, Life’s too short to grow up.  “We all enjoy what we do to help with this event."

The Seventh District Optimist Club provided free lunches for the kids and a free bike raffle for children 12 and younger. The first 100 children received a free water bottle courtesy of the Museum Division and sponsors.
