Troopers participate in back to school shopping event

Prince Frederick, MD - On Aug. 4, troopers from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack participated in Calvert County's "Shop with a Cop." This event is not only held at Christmas, but also at the start of each school year as well so that children have the necessary tools to help them prepare for and succeed in school.

The day started out with select Calvert County Maryland children being picked up at home by their individually matched police officers from multiple law enforcement agencies. The children were then collectively taken to the Lord Calvert Bowling Center where breakfast was served and everyone had an opportunity to bowl. A long procession of Calvert County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police-Prince Frederick Barrack "U", Prince George's County Police Department and Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal vehicles drove the children to the Peebles in Prince Frederick where they were each given an allotted amount of money to spend on school clothes. Each child was also gifted with a bookbag that was full of necessary school supplies.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed Hotel Transylvania 3 at the Flagship Cinemas Calvert Village before the children were returned home.

The Prince Frederick Barrack was pleased to participate and appreciates every opportunity to support the citizens of Calvert County and the communities in which they live. A special thanks goes out to the many businesses, community organizations, agencies and volunteers that made this special day possible.

The Prince Frederick Barrack Troopers who participated this year were Cpl. Ruth, Tfc. Costello, Tfc. Rucker, Tfc. Palumbo, Trooper Backus, Trooper Stull and Trooper Woolman.
