Asbury Solomons Assisted Living - Enjoy the gift of aging

Solomons, MD –
If you think about it, aging is a gift. Yet, especially in our older years, aging can be accompanied by physical and mental changes that make it difficult to fully maintain our independence. Asbury Solomons continuing care retirement community helps people age with peace of mind, knowing that they will have support no matter what challenges lie ahead. Located on the Patuxent River just outside Solomons Island, the campus includes 24 assisted living suites and a 5-star rated skilled nursing center, in addition to apartments and cottages for residential living.

Vicky Balderson, director of Nursing, of Asbury Solomons, gave an overview of the community’s assisted living neighborhood.

Each assisted living suite at Asbury Solomons includes a living room, bedroom and a private bath. Services included in a resident’s monthly fee include all meals and snacks, access to the wellness center—including pool and spa, massage therapy, aquatics classes—medication administration, housekeeping, personal laundry, nursing and licensed social worker’s services and choices in daily programs.

To address residents’ health needs, Asbury Solomons Assisted Living has a nurse on site Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and two nursing assistants on staff 24/7. Certified medicine aides give residents their required medications. Residents continue to travel to their own providers’ offices for health care services, although Asbury Solomons does provide on-site rehabilitative care. Some specialists make regular on-site visits, and off-campus transportation is available.

Assisted living at Asbury Solomons gives residents access to a wide array of events, clubs and programs at the retirement community. Residents take frequent trips to local restaurants and shops, go bowling, and visit other local destinations.
There is even a happy hour every Friday at the Topside Pub and Grille, which overlooks the Patuxent River.

When residents crave serenity, Asbury Solomons’ sensory garden provides the ideal elixir. Residents are able to help with the plantings of flowers and some vegetables and herbs and help maintain several birds’ feeders.
Balderson spoke about Asbury Solomons’ recent campaign on Facebook, called “What’s Age Got to Do With It?” Posts show residents who still find life to be full of adventure.

The sometimes confounding paperwork process that can precede the move to assisted living is not an adventure at all. Balderson explained that while completing the paperwork involves reviews of financial and medical records, “we try to make it an easy process. I don’t think it’s arduous.”

Asbury Solomons abides by federal fair housing practices and is an equal housing opportunity community.
