All smiles are showing for the first day of school

Indian Head, Md.-- The first day of school always brings excitement, nervousness and hope that this year will be the best yet. Charles County Public Schools had their first day of school Aug. 31, and there was no shortage of smiles from the students.

J.C. Parks Elementary School Principle Thadine Wright was ecstatic about the up coming year and all the new students arriving to school for the first day.

"We have spent a lot of time through the summer, and last week preparing our teachers to make sure they are comfortable. We have a theme this year of connections, each of our students have lanterns on with there names on them so we can greet each other by names," said Wright.

Wright was awarded the Principal of the Year for 2014, and still believes that it is not about individual awards, but more about the team overall.

"It was such an honor and very humbling to win that award, but this is more about our school. I am here for our teachers so they can be here for our students. My ultimate goal is to continue to be a good role model for our students," said Wright.

Wright commented "that she is so proud of our community and our teachers, because they have the right mindset. Our staff is suppose to sign in at 8:30 a.m. there were staff members here at 7:30 a.m.," said Wright.

"I know the kids are nervous, but I am nervous too, but it is like a nervous excitement for the beginning of the new school year.
