Town planners okay concept for medical office building

The Leonardtown Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a concept plan for a third office building at the Davis Office Park on Hollywood Road. The property was approved for annexation into town at the council’s August 12 meeting. That annexation becomes effective September 26 and the planners’ approval was contingent on the annexation being finalized. The approval came at the commission’s regular meeting on Monday afternoon.

Developer Wayne Davis, whose company owns the park, requested the annexation so that the property could receive sewer service from the town sewage treatment plant. The property is served by wells but also could hook up to the central water system at a later date.

The proposed building will be 11,520 square feet. Because it is larger than the 10,000-square-foot maximum size allowed in the town ordinance, the larger building will require approval from the town board of zoning appeals. The planning commission recommended that the appeals board approve the variance.

Davis told the planning commission that he has a medical services group that wants to occupy the new building and they required the larger building.

The final site plan with the building design will come back to the planning commission for approval.
