Dope Dealer Flees on Foot after Six Mile Police Chase

At 1:10 a.m. Aug. 1, Trooper First Class J. Edelen was on routine patrol traveling southbound on Route 925, south of VFW Road, when he observed a blue Chevrolet bearing MD registration 11129CA exceeding the posted speed limit.

The trooper conducted a pace on the vehicle at 55 miles per hour in a posted 35 miles per hour zone and activated his emergency equipment to make a traffic stop.

As he activated his lights and siren the vehicle attempted to flee from him. TFC Edelen chased the vehicle for approximately 6 miles where stop sticks were deployed causing the fleeing vehicle to become inoperable.

The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, then was apprehended. The driver was identified as Jamal Proctor Johnson, 27, of Upper Marlboro. A check through MILES and NCIC revealed his license status to be revoked.

A search incident to arrest revealed a zip lock bag containing 5 individually wrapped baggies of marijuana weighing 20.2 grams.  A further search of the vehicle revealed two zip lock baggies, one containing five individually wrapped baggies of marijuana weighing 30.5 grams and the other containing 20.1 grams of marijuana.

Johnson was charged with the following: possession of marijuana; possession of paraphernalia; possession with intent to distribute marijuana and numerous traffic charges. He was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.
