Deputy Throws the Book at Fleeing, Fighting Man

At 8:40 p.m. Aug. 14, Officer D. Walker of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot behind Korner Liquors located at 3120 Old Washington Road in Waldorf.

After the officer made initial contact with the driver, John William Loar, III, 35, of Newburg, he fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, Loar was apprehended, but began to physically resist and fight with Officer Walker.

He was subsequently subdued, arrested and charged with assault on police, resisting arrest, second degree assault, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while suspended, driving an unregistered vehicle on roadway, displaying registration issued to another and fleeing and eluding.

Loar was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer Walker sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.
