Lexington Park Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for Domestic Violence Assault

UPDATE: Leonardtown, MD - January 30, 2020 - Defendant Mitchell William Donnelly (D.O.B. 01/27/1994) was sentenced to twenty-five (25) years suspended down to twenty (20) years in prison for his involvement in a domestic violence assault.

After serving his twenty (20) year sentence in prison, the Defendant will be placed on five (5) years of supervised probation and will have another five (5) years of back-up time held over his head.

Lexington Park, MD - Mitchell William Donnelly, 25, of Lexington Park is being held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, charged with first-degree assault after an incident Wednesday in 20600 block of Poplar Ridge Road in Lexington Park.

According to a report from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and troopers from the Maryland State Police responded to the scene, and an officer observed Donnelly striking the victim in the head with a cinder block.

When officers tried to assist the victim, Donnelly actively resisted arrest, at one point grabbing the holster of a Maryland Police State Trooper, which he refused to release until his hand was forcibly removed.

The victim told police that Donnelly had also bitten and punched the victim in the face. The victim was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

Donnelly was charged with the following:

  • Assault First Degree
  • Assault Second Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Attempt to Disarm a Law Enforcement Officer
